CYF Function
CYF works with children who are at risk of being abused or have been abused or neglected. It also works with children who are beyond their parent's control, have delinquent behavior, and/or have violated the law. CYF has a number of specialized programs devoted to serving the children and families of Larimer County. The CYF mission statement is very clear and fits the nature of the department's function. It expresses an integrated approach to child protection, family, and juvenile justice.
CYF Values
CYF strongly supports the right of children to be safe. It is believed that it is the whole community's responsibility to support and ensure the welfare of children. Some of the department's values are:
- The well being of children is a community responsibility of which the agency has a vital role.
- Parents are first and foremost/responsible for raising their children.
- Extended family plays an integral role in raising children and helping parents.
- Children have a right to ongoing relationships with parents and kin, wherever and whenever possible.
- The department is committed to respecting individual family culture.
- Caseworkers, in partnership with the community, have a responsibility to identify all possible resources that ensure family safety and functioning.
- Child placement is not the solution; it is part of the process to ensure safety.
