Tobacco Free Larimer County

Tobacco Free Larimer County is a program under the Community Health section of the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. Our programs and services are based on nationally accepted, evidence-based best practices.

Tobacco Free Larimer County (www.tobaccofreelarimer.org) works to prevent tobacco-caused death, disease and economic burden through organizations and individuals working together to support tobacco-free lifestyles and communities. We provide programs and policies that are comprehensive, evidence based, culturally appropriate and cost effective to prevent youth from starting to use tobacco; help people who use tobacco to quit; assist in the reduction of and protection from secondhand smoke; and reduce tobacco use among groups that are disproportionately affected and/or at high risk.

Services Provided:

  • Assistance and consultation for communities, schools, worksites, and other organizations working to reduce tobacco use
  • Information and referral to tobacco cessation programs
  • Collaboration with local law enforcement and retailers to reduce tobacco sales to minors
  • Collaboration with local law enforcement and community members to promote compliance of the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act
  • Community coalition development and staff support for local youth and community tobacco prevention coalitions.

AAs of July 1, 2006, the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act requires most indoor work and public places to be smokefree. More information about the law is available at www.smokefreecolorado.com.

AFixNixer is an on-line quit smoking program for youth and young adults. It is sponsored by The State Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Professional staff at the Colorado Quitline 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) are trained to work with youth who smoke and want to quit smoking.
