What is this?
Mosquito pool: A group of up to 50 mosquitoes, collected from a mosquito trap, are put into a small tube ("pooled" together) for West Nile Virus testing. These pooled mosquitoes are tested as a single sample (the "mosquito pool"). A positive test confirms that West Nile virus is present in the area where they were trapped. Results from testing mosquito pools help identify the highest risk areas for West Nile Virus, and are useful in targeting areas for mosquito control.
