Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How soon will I get my test results?
It depends on which tests have been done. Some infections can be identified and treated immediately. Other tests results may require 10 days to 2 weeks to be confirmed by a laboratory.
  2. How much does an STD test cost?
The STD services at the Health Department are on a sliding fee scale, which means that your fee is based on your income level. No one is refused services for inability to pay.
  3. Will my test results be reported to my parents, spouse, sexual partner or anyone else?
Colorado laws require that certain communicable diseases be reported to the State Health Department. This includes STD's such as syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV, and chlamydia. Colorado laws also make it illegal to release any medical information to anyone without your written consent. Parents, spouses, or anyone else would never be informed of your visit to the clinic or your test results unless your gave your permission to release that information to them.
