BOXELDER CREEK REGIONAL STORMWATER PROJECT

Last Updated:  July 16, 2008

Welcome to the Boxelder Creek Regional Stormwater Project - a cooperative effort by numerous public agencies to address stormwater issues in the Boxelder Creek Watershed area.

"Boxelder/Coal Creek remains on the top 10 list of floodprone
watersheds for the State of Colorado, and is of high priority… to
mitigate the extensive threat from these waterways."

Kevin Houck, Colorado State Floodplain Manager

We hope you find this website useful in learning about on-going efforts to reduce the flood hazard in the area and how residents can both benefit from and be a part of the solution. Take a look, and feel free to contact us with any questions, or provide us your thoughts and input.

What's New

FEMA Grant Application

Larimer County, in cooperation with other local jurisdictions, sponsored a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant application to help fund the first portion of improvements. We are excited to announce that we received word in May that our application was successful and FEMA has allocated $3 million for this project.

Intergovernmental Agreements

In order to collectively plan, design, fund, construct, and maintain the improvements. Larimer County, the City of Fort Collins, and the Town of Wellington are working to form the Boxelder Regional Stormwater Authority. It would serve as the governmental mechanism to implement the Boxelder Master Plan, and coordinate funding, construction, and maintenance. Language for the needed Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) has been drafted. A decision on the Authority formation will be made by the three governments in July. Larimer County has scheduled a public hearing on July 29th at 6:30 p.m. at 200 W. Oak St. in Fort Collins.

Public Outreach and Information Sharing

In late April, 2008 a newsletter was mailed to residents in the proposed Authority Service Area. A second newsletter was mailed in mid-July.

A drop-in Open House will be held at the Larimer County Engineering Department at 200 W. Oak, Fort Collins, on the third floor on July 23rd, 24th, and 25th from noon to 5 p.m. with extended hours on the 24th (noon to 6:30 p.m.) We invite you to stop by during these house to view the exhibits, have your questions answered, and share your comment and ideas with our staff.

A Public Hearing on the establishment of the Authority will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at 200 W. Oak St.
