Elections

WILL I GET A W-2 BECAUSE I WORKED ELECTION DAY?

In most cases the answer is NO you will not get a W-2 because Election Fees are not subject to income tax withholding. However, if other earnings that are subject to withholding are over $600.00 in a year payments of wages that are not subject to income tax withholding must also be included on the Form W-2. Payments made to an election worker are not subject to FICA withholding unless the earnings are over $1,300.00 in a year.

Do I have to report the Election Fees/earnings if I don't get a W-2?

Yes According to the IRS you must still report the earnings on your personal tax return The Election Fee(s)/earnings would be listed on Line 21 - Other Income of the 1040 return.

If you have worked for Larimer County in another capacity and worked on Election Day then........

  • If you are a regular benefited Larimer County Government employee, the amount of the Election Fee(s) is already included in your W-2 earnings.
  • If you are an hourly temporary Larimer County Government employee:

You will receive a W-2 for your Election Day Fee(s) and your regular earnings if the combined total is over $600.00 for the year.

If your Election Day Fee(s) combined with your regular earnings are under $600.00 for the year, you will receive a W-2 for your regular earnings but not for the Election Day Fee(s).
