Frequently Asked Voting Questions

QHow do I obtain a mail ballot?

AThe November 3, 2009 Coordinated Election is a mail ballot election. Ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters between October 9 and October 19, 2009.

Mail ballots are not forwardable by U.S. mail. If you need your ballot mailed somewhere other than your residential or mailing address, you may complete and sign the Combination Voter Registration and Mail-In Ballot Application. Mail or fax the completed form to the address below.

You may also send us a letter requesting your mail ballot be sent to an alternate mailing address. Include your full name (printed), date of birth, address that you reside at in Larimer County, address that you want the ballot mailed to, and your signature.

QWhere do I vote?

AThe November 3, 2009 Coordinated Election is a mail ballot election. All eligible voters will receive their ballots via mail. Ballots will be mailed between October 9 and October 19, 2009.

Voters requiring assistance may come to the Elections Department at 200 W. Oak St., Suite 5100 in Fort Collins. Our normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Election Day we will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

QWhen do I vote?

ABallots will be mailed beginning October 9, 2009. All ballots must be received by the Elections Department no later than 7:00 p.m. on November 3, 2009.

Coordinated Elections are held on the first Tuesday of November in odd-numbered years. General Elections are held on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November in even-numbered years. Primary Elections are held on the second Tuesday of August in even-numbered years.

QWhat if I make a mistake on my ballot?

AIf you need a replacement ballot or did not receive the original ballot, call the Elections Department at (970) 498-7820. A replacement ballot will be issued along with an affidavit. The affidavit must be signed and returned along with your replacement ballot.

Voters may receive up to two replacement ballots.

QHow do I become eligible to vote?

AIn order to be eligible to vote, you must be eighteen years of age or older on or before Election Day and a United States citizen.

You must also register to vote in the county in which you reside. You must register 29 days or more before an election to be eligible to vote in that election.

QHow do I update my address?

AIf you move from your voter registration address, you must change your address with the County Clerk and Recorder. You may update your address in person or by mail, fax or email.

Mail ballots are not forwardable by U.S. mail. To make certain your mail ballot is sent to the correct address, all address changes should be made 29 days or more before the election.

QWill my mail ballot count?

AYes. In Colorado, a vote cast by mail ballot is counted the same as a vote cast on Election Day. All mail ballots must be received by the Elections Department by 7:00 p.m. on November 3, 2009.

QWill my provisional ballot count?

AIf you are a qualified voter in Larimer County, your provisional ballot will count. A qualified elector must:

  • Be registered to vote in Colorado no later than October 5, 2009 for the 2009 Coordinated Election;
  • Be a resident of Larimer County on or before October 4, 2009; and
  • Sign the affidavit on the provisional envelope.

Q"How may I obtain a certified document of registration for in-state tuition purposes or other purposes?

AThe certificate costs $1.25 and can be obtained in person or by mail. Checks and cash are accepted. Voter information cards are also available free of charge.

Include in your request your printed name, date of birth, residence address, mailing address (if different from your residence address) and signature. You may also provide a fax number if you would like the certificate faxed to you.

Payment is required prior to issuing the certificate.
