Frequently Asked Voting Questions

Question Will My Mail-in Ballot Count?
Answer Absolutely! In the State of Colorado, a vote cast by mail-in ballot is counted the same as a vote cast on Election Day or during Early Voting. Remember, all mail-in ballots must be received in the Elections Department Office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. If you vote by mail-in ballot in Larimer County, your vote will count!
 
Question Will My Provisional Ballot Count?
Answer Yes, if you are a qualified voter in Larimer County, your provisional ballot will count! A qualified elector:
  1. must be registered to vote in the State of Colorado no later than no later than July 14, 2008 for the Primary Election and October 6, 2008 for the General Election;
  2. must be a resident of Larimer County on or before July 13, 2008 for the Primary Election and October 5, 2008 for the General Election; and
  3. must sign the provisional envelope;
 
Question How Do I Become Eligible To Vote?
Answer In order to be eligible to vote, you must register in the county in which you reside. By registering, you declare your residency in the State of Colorado within the county and district of your actual physical residence. You must register 29 days or more before the election to be eligible to vote in an upcoming election.
 
Question How Do I Update My Address Information After I've Moved?
Answer If you move from your voter registration address, you must change your address with the County Clerk and Recorder. You may either mail your address change to our office, stop in our office in the county courthouse, or you may update your voter information in one of our two branch offices located in Loveland and Estes Park.

*PLEASE NOTE: If changes are not submitted 29 days or more before the election, you may be subject to delays at the polling place when you vote.

 
Question How Do I Obtain A Mail-in Ballot?
Answer Print the Mail-in Ballot Application and fill it out.
OR

Write us a letter requesting a mail-in ballot be mailed to you. You will need to print your full name, date of birth, address that you reside at in Larimer County, address that you want the ballot mailed to, and your signature.

The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot that is to be mailed to you is August 5, 2008 for the Primary Election and October 28, 2008 for the General Election.

Question Where Do I Vote?
Answer You will be able to cast your ballot by any one of the following methods:
  • By mail via Mail-in Ballot
  • In person at an Early Voting Branch Office
  • In person at a Vote Center on Election Day
Vote Center:

Instead of the traditional 140 precinct polling places, there will be approximately 20 to 30 Vote Centers located around Larimer County. Voters will be able to go to any Vote Center in the county to cast their ballots. Precinct specific polling places will not be used in the 2008 Primary and General Elections. Locations for Vote Centers will be published as we approach election dates.

Early Voting Site:

You will also have the option of casting your vote prior to Election Day at one of the Early Voting Branch Offices in Fort Collins, Loveland or Estes Park. Early Voting locations are open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Locations and dates of operation are published closer to Election Day.

Mail-in Ballot:

If you prefer, you may vote by mail via mail-in ballot. Mail-in ballots must be applied for each calendar year and you must indicate for which elections you want a ballot mailed to you. You will also need to indicate the address to which you want the ballot mailed. Please note if you apply for both a Primary Election and General Election Mail-in Ballot, and need them mailed to different addresses. See above for instructions regarding mail-in ballot applications.

 
Question When Do I Vote?
Answer Check the Important Dates for additional information. By statute, General Elections are held on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November in even-numbered years. Primary Elections are held on the second Tuesday of August in even-numbered years. Coordinated Elections are held on the first Tuesday of November in odd-numbered years.
 
Question What If I Make A Mistake On My Ballot?
Answer If you make a mistake on a ballot, return it to the election judges and they will issue you a new one. Remember, according to Colorado law, you're authorized as many as two replacement ballots to correct your mistakes. If you have a ballot mailed to you and a mistake is made, please contact the Elections office at (970) 498-7820.
 
Question How Do I Become A Poll Worker (Election Judge, Supervisor or, Troubleshooter)?

Question How May I Obtain A Certified Document Based On Voter Registration For In-state Tuition and Travel Purposes?
Answer The certificate costs $2.00 and can be obtained in person or by mail. Voter information cards are also available free of charge.

Send $2.00 check or money order to: Larimer County Clerk & Recorder, Elections Department, P.O. Box 1547, Fort Collins, CO 80522. Please indicate in your signed request your Name, Date of Birth and residence address. We will forward the certificate to an address or fax number per your instructions.
