What these data tell us:
In general, Larimer County vehicle registrations increased from 1997 to 2006. The greatest yearly increases occurred in 1997 (16%). Note the sharpest annual decline in vehicles registered occurred in 2002. The data table shows the decline was exclusively in the 'Other Larimer County' areas, a drop of 55,738 vehicles registered between 2001 and 2002. All of the cities (Berthoud, Estes Park, Fort Collins, Loveland and Wellington) experienced continued increases in vehicle registration during this time. The number of registered vehicles declined slightly from 2005 to 2006 in all municipalities except Wellington. In 2006, while there was a decrease in the number of registered vehicles, emissions law changes went into effect on January 1, 2007, and may have contributed as persons with vehicles that were unable to pass emissions, may have waited until 2007 to register.
