What these data tell us:
In Larimer County, the largest percentage of 2008 alcohol treatment admissions was among 25 to 34 year olds, followed by 18 to 24 and 35 to 44 year olds. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reports that in 2007, among young adults aged 18 to 25, the rate of binge drinking was 41.8%, and the rate of heavy drinking was 14.7%. What these data tell us:
In Larimer County, about a third of 2008 treatment admissions for alcohol were female, which is slightly higher than previous years. Nationally, in 2006 women comprised 25% of all alcohol treatment admissions. According to a report from SAMHSA, Women in Substance Abuse Treatment, differences in treatment admissions between genders include:- Women were less likely than men to be employed full-time and more likely to be unemployed.
- Women were more likely than men to be admitted for drug abuse instead of alcohol abuse.

What these data tell us:
While Hispanics were the second largest ethnicity in the Larimer County population (10%), they were overrepresented in 2008 alcohol treatment admissions (16.2%). What these data tell us:
From 2003 to 2008, Larimer County methamphetamine (meth) treatment admissions increased more than 176%, peaking in 2006. Locally, criminal justice agencies began reporting an increase in the presence of meth in the community during that time. For example, the number of 'Narcotics' arrests, the category which encompasses meth arrests, more than doubled (118% increase) from 1999 to 2004. According to the Larimer County Drug Task Force, the amount of methamphetamine produced and available for distribution in Larimer County was significantly reduced between 2006 and 2008.

What these data tell us:
In 2008, the largest percentage of treatment for methamphetamine (meth) was among 25 to 34 year olds. Between 2006 and 2008, meth treatment admissions among County youth decreased by 60%. Colorado and Larimer County made a concerted effort beginning in 2006 to reduce the number of meth labs and those efforts have been successful in virtually eradicating the supply. According to the 2007 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 4.4% of high school students reported using methamphetamine at some point in their lifetimes. What these data tell us:
A higher percentage of women are treated for methamphetamine abuse than other forms of substance abuse. A major contributing factor is that many girls and young women begin taking methamphetamine to control their weight.Overall, however, there are still more males than females who are admitted for methamphetamine treatment.

What these data tell us:
Treatment admissions for Driving under the Influence (DUI) peaked in 2007 at 2,888. Reported DUI admissions increased 583% between 2003 and 2008, according to Colorado's Alcohol & Drug Abuse Division. In Colorado, ADAD, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division of the Colorado Department of Health & Human Services, develops and enforces regulations for Level I and Level II DUI education and treatment programs. Approximately 30,000 DUI offenders are referred to these programs each year in Colorado.- Alcohol detox admissions comprised 87% to 89% of all Larimer County detox admissions from 2006 to 2008. Since 2004, with the opening of a centralized Crisis Assessment Center in the Poudre Valley Hospital Emergency Medical Department, detoxification referrals have increased steadily. Larimer County uses the Larimer Center for Mental Health for detoxification services.
