What We Measured:
Outside Compass:
Highlights:
- The proportions of alcohol related vehicle fatalities in Larimer County have fluctuated, but overall have increased from 1999 to 2003. In 2003, 79% of the drivers who survived fatal motor vehicle accidents had consumed no alcohol, compared to 21% of the individuals with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.01 or greater, meaning that they consumed some amount of alcohol. (Alcohol Related Traffic Fatalities)
- Within Larimer County, Estes Park Police Department's ratio (3.05 per 1,000 population) was most similar to the Colorado average (2.37 per 1,000 population). The remaining County law enforcement agencies had comparable officer/resident ratios, averaging about 1.14 law enforcement officers per 1,000 residents. (Law Enforcement Coverage)
- Each law enforcement agency's area of coverage varies a great deal, from 2640 square miles for the Larimer County Sheriff's Office to six square miles for the Estes Park Police Department. Although the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Fort Collins Police Department and Colorado State University have their own jurisdictions, they sometimes work together to cover emergencies and other law enforcement needs. (Law Enforcement Coverage)
- Loveland and Fort Collins citizens show their communities are relatively safe place to live. (Perceived Levels of Safety)
