What these data tell us:

Mortality rates for both males and females in Larimer County decreased between 2000 and 2005. Average mortality rates were higher in males (850 per 100,000), than females (621 per 100,000). Males experienced the largest decline in 2004. This appears to be part of a nationwide decline in mortality rates for males during this period, primarily due to decreasing rates of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Mortality rates for Larimer County females declined gradually in 2002 and 2003, in all likelihood because of a decline in death due to cardiovascular disease.

Males and females in Larimer County have lower mortality rates than males and females nationwide. In 2004, the national age-adjusted mortality rate among females was 679 per 100,000 and among males the rate was 956 per 100,000 (National Center for Health Statistics, 2004).

What these data tell us:

In Larimer County, the mortality rate of the White population is slightly higher than for the other populations. In 2005, White residents made up 86% of the population and accounted for 95% of the total deaths, while Hispanics made up about 10% of the population and accounted for 4% of the total deaths. This result appears to be influenced by the predominance of the White population (see Population by Ethnicity page) and a larger proportion of elderly White residents (10%) in comparison to Hispanic residents (6%) in Larimer County.
