What these data tell us:
From 2004 to 2008, the ratio of male to female inmates booked in the Detention Center remained approximately 4:1, with slight variations over the last five years.A breakdown for 2008 provided the following characteristics of the Larimer County Detention Center inmate population (n=472):
- There were 2,476 inmates or 23% of inmate population serving a jail sentence. Inmates were more likely to be awaiting a sentencing hearing (66% on pretrial status), than any other status. Of the total population, 11% had a 'Hold' placed by some criminal justice agency, such as the Department of Corrections or Probation. 'Hold' status typically means that the inmate has violated a term of supervision and is awaiting disciplinary action, such as a parole hold, or that the inmate is being held in custody while awaiting bed space in another residential facility, such as the Larimer County Community Corrections program.
- Inmates age 25 years or younger, made up 38% of the total jail population. Inmates age 26 to 40 (40%) were twice as prevalent as those age 41 to 55 (20%). Inmates ages 56 and above made up 2.7% of the inmate population.
- The majority of inmates were 'White' (71%). Hispanics made up 24% of the inmate population, although they represented approximately 9.8% of the 2007 adult population in Larimer County (See Population by Ethnicity & Population by Age - Ethnicity Table).
