According to the United States Census, people who sometimes or always speak a language other than English at home are counted as 'those who speak a language other than English'. This count does not include people who speak a different language only at school or work, or those who speak only a few expressions or slang. The response represents the person's own perception of his or her ability to speak English: from ''very well ''to ''not at all". Most people who speak another language at home also speak English.

What these data tell us:
In 2000, those who did not speak primarily English in the home comprised 8.5% of the population in Larimer County. Among these residents, the primary language spoken in the home was Spanish (12,401 residents). Other Indo-European and Asian/Pacific Island languages were spoken by approximately 6,719 residents. Larimer County is very similar to Colorado and the United States in the proportional breakdown of languages spoken in the home.Additional Information:
