Language Spoken at Home

Date Posted: 10/20/2004

According to the United States Census, people who sometimes or always speak a language other than English at home are counted as 'those who speak a language other than English'. This count does not include people who speak a different language only at school or work, or those who speak only a few expressions or slang. The response represents the person's own perception of his or her ability to speak English: from ''very well ''to ''not at all". Most people who speak another language at home also speak English.
