Dropout Rates - Charts
What this chart shows: Dropout Rates in Larimer County by Race/Ethnicity & Gender, 2003-04 to 2007-08

Data Source: Colorado Department of Education
What these data tell us:
Generally speaking, the dropout rates in Larimer County have been declining over the past five years. In the White student body population, the dropout rate for White males was slightly higher than for White females, which is also generally true for Hispanics. In 2007-08, the dropout rate for Hispanic female students rose nearly 15%. Teen fertility rates are not yet available for 2008, but the number of Hispanic teens (age 15-17) giving birth in 2007 was lower than the previous year. (See Teen Fertility Rates)Larimer County's school districts are predominantly comprised of White students, with Hispanics being the largest minority population. There are relatively few Native American, Asian, and Black students currently in attendance. These small population numbers mean that slight deviations in dropouts each year can have a disproportionate effect on the dropout rate.
Overall, Larimer County school districts have had a lower dropout rate than the state average for both White and Hispanic students.
What this chart shows: Dropout Rates in Park School District by Race/Ethnicity & Gender, 2003-04 to 2007-08

Data Source: Colorado Department of Education
What these data tell us:
Park School District has an ongoing transient population that affects the district's dropout rate. In addition, the Hispanic student population is relatively small, so one family with high school students leaving the area can disproportionately change the dropout rates. Between 2003-04 and 2007-08, the number of Hispanic students reported as dropouts varied from none to seven. What this chart shows: Dropout Rates in Poudre School District by Race/Ethnicity & Gender, 2003-04 to 2007-08

Data Source: Colorado Department of Education
What these data tell us:
According to Poudre School District officials, prior to the implementation of the SASID system in 2003-04, students who dropped out during the summer months weren't included in the dropout statistics, creating lower rates. In an effort to correct for these inaccuracies, summer dropouts were inadvertently double counted in 2003-04 and 2004-05, which artificially raised the dropout rates for those two years.Beginning in 2005-06, dropout rates have stabilized or declined, with the exception of a 9% increase in Hispanic females in 2007-08. Numerically, this represented an additional four dropouts for this group.
What this chart shows: Dropout Rates in Thompson School District by Race/Ethnicity & Gender, 2003-04 to 2007-08

Data Source: Colorado Department of Education
What these data tell us:
The Hispanic dropout rate declined more than 50% for the 2004-05 school year in the Thompson School District. According to Thompson School District officials, the 2003-04 school year was the first year data was submitted electronically to the Colorado Department of Education. The shift from paper to electronically-submitted data created discrepancies, and students who 'did not match' were erroneously counted as dropouts. Thus, care should be taken interpreting the results and attributing any cause to this decline. In general, the dropout rate for Whites has remained fairly stable over the last five school years. There has been much more variation in the dropout rates for Hispanics students, although the actual number of Hispanic students who drop out each year is small enough to warrant caution in attributing significance to the rates.
