Citizens Perception of Tolerance & Diversity

The following information is excerpted from the City of Fort Collins Citizens Survey 2006. The City mailed questionnaires to 1,790 randomly selected Fort Collins households. Of those distributed, 103 could not be delivered, leaving a sample of 1,687 eligible households. The sampling frame included student housing and dormitories at Colorado State University. Adult residents from 786 of these households returned completed questionnaires, representing a response rate of approximately 47%. The survey asked respondents to rate Fort Collins as a community on several items, and asked to rank their favorite and least favorite things about living in Fort Collins.

What these data tell us:

The rating scale for this chart is: 88 to 100 = Very Good, 63 to 87 = Good, 38 to 62 = Average, 13 to 37 = Bad and 0 to 12 = Very Bad.

The majority of the categories scored in the 'Good' to 'Very Good' range. According to the survey, citizens see their city as a desirable place to attend college or raise children, and overall, as a place to live. 'Job Opportunities' and 'Overall, economic health' were rated the lowest among living aspects in Fort Collins, and qualified only as 'Average'.

    What these data tell us:

    Availability and diversity of job opportunities and affordable housing were among the aspects of Fort Collins that residents liked least in 2006. Ease of traveling in Fort Collins by public transportation and ease of driving in Fort Collins were also ranked lower than 'good' in the 2006 Citizen Survey. Quality of public schools and availability and diversity of recreational opportunities were aspects of Fort Collins that residents liked most in 2006.
