Decks
Permit Requirements
- If the deck is residential and 30 inches or less above finished grade, then a permit is not required.
- If the deck is over 30 inches above finished grade (at any point) then a building permit is required. The permit requires 2 (two) sets of building plans drawn to scale and 4 (four) plot plans as described above.
- Building plans must include a deck framing plan, deck elevations, and connection details.
- Stairs must also be diagramed including rise and run.
- Indicate joist size and spacing and show beam span and spacing between support post.
- The structural application must be completed. Submit the plot plans, application, and a submittal fee to the Building Department. Remaining permit fees are due at issuance of the permit.
