Health, safety, food, shelter, clothing and transportation are some of the services provided to the public through Health & Human Services and various delegated non-county agencies.
Larimer County maintains a countywide detention center, provides police protection in unincorporated areas, works with the community to deter crime, prosecutes offenders, provides emergency rescue, fights wildfires, and administers alternative sentencing programs.
Larimer County maintains 1101 miles of paved and unpaved roads, 79 Subdivisions and 319 bridges. The fleet of equipment needed to maintain this infrastructure is maintained internally.
Larimer County handles the development review process for all areas outside city limits, including zoning, subdivision and other land use issues.
Larimer County maintains parks and hiking trails, provides forest and land management services, maintains the fairground facility and supports the County Fair. Included is the voter approved Open Space Sales and Use Tax Fund - 0.25% for eight years.
Larimer County has centralized support services that assist all county departments to function in the most efficient and economical manner as possible.
Larimer County maintains many major public facilities, shop and garage buildings. The construction, operation and maintenance costs of facilities are funded from this area. Also included is the collection of voter approved sales and use tax for New Court House Projects - 0.20% not to exceed 15 years. Jail Expansion - .20% for expansion & operation. The tax will not exceed 17 years in total. Also the 0.10% for one year to purchase of the new Fairgrounds property is included in this budget category.
Larimer County operates landfills and several transfer stations to dispose of solid waste. Solid Waste Management accounts for the County's landfill and recycling operations, which are primarily funded by site collections.
Larimer County acts as an agency of the state to register and license motor vehicles, conduct elections, determine property values, and collect taxes for all taxing districts in the county.
Larimer County acts as an umbrella for other governmental functions and includes the budgets for neighborhood Improvement Districts that are formed to pay for their own paving of streets, sidewalks or maintenance.
Larimer County transfers funds between its offices to provide support or to pay for internal services.
