Mary Shultz called the meeting to order.
Mary Shultz welcomed Karen Wagner the advisory council’s new County Commissioner Liaison and acknowledged Nancy Arthur, Service Coordinator for Oakbrook II. Margaret Long welcomed Todd Swanson, Management and Evaluation staff person from the Colorado Division of Aging and Adult Services.
The advisory council welcomed back Steve Budner who was on vacation in Thailand.
Katy Mason recommended changes to page 4; second paragraph under Health Committee, “Foundation” should be changed to Women’s Center and the Loveland Community Health Center.
Earl moved to accept minutes with adjustments, Carolyn Funk seconded the motion.
Mary Shultz updated the council regarding the Job Fair committee. The committee decided not to charge for booths this year because the Workforce Center has offered funding to help with the expenses. The Job Fair committee’s next meeting will be February 17th at 11:30 a.m. at the Chilsen Center.
Mary announced that both Hal Wilson and Tom Nix are out of town for the next month or two.
Update on Application Assistance Service
Criminal Records Checks
Education Committee
Mary Shultz announced that the Education Committee discussed the Speakers Bureau PowerPoint presentation that Lloyd Spawn created. Lloyd recommended shortening the presentation to no more than 20 minutes leaving 10 minutes for questions and answers.
Executive Committee
Mary Shultz announced that the Executive Committee discussed background checks and alternative sites for Advisory Council meetings.
Health Committee
Gerry Hinks reported that the Health Committee’s next meeting is February 22nd.
Membership Committee
Stan Ulrich commented that he will follow up with Paulette Pardun regarding her resignation.
Nutrition Committee
Margaret Long reported that the Nutrition Committee is in recess. They plan to meet during the summer at a time that all providers can attend.
Senior Attainable Housing Committee
Stan Ulrich commented that the committee has come up with the survey questions for their questionnaire. The committee also discussed the Funders Forum meeting.
Transportation Committee
Karen Reinhardt reported that Susan McNeil, a consultant for North Front Range came to the meeting and discussed combining all the funding for rural transportation into one entity.
Margaret Long reported on a meeting that she had with Professor Bruce Hall from CSU. Bruce is a member of the local chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Bruce and NASW are interested in analyzing the transportation needs of the vulnerable populations in Fort Collins, including seniors. Margaret has asked that someone from their committee to attend the next advisory transportation committee meeting on Friday, February 18th at 8:00 a.m.
Staff Reports
Lynette McGowan, the new Caregiver Support Program Coordinator, commented that she is glad to be back working for the Office on Aging.
Diane Pelletier, Ombudsman, announced that Linda Rumney, Intern, is now a certified Ombudsman. Diane reported that Pat Tunnell, State Ombudsman, will be here to evaluate the Office on Aging Ombudsman program next week. Diane also reported that the Health Department has completed their survey of Fort Collins Healthcare Center in which they received 14 tags.
SENIOR ADVISORY REPORTS
Fort Collins Senior Advisory Board
Dean Miller reported the Senior Advisory Board members are spreading the word to vote no on repealing the sales tax on food initiative. The board also met with Margo Carson to further discuss the transportation proposal with Poudre Valley Hospital.
Loveland Senior Advisory Board
No report was given.
Foundation on Aging
Mary Shultz reported that the Board had decided to take on a fundraising project in order to raise money to help with senior issues in the community.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Stan Ulrich announced that AARP has transportation available for the Senior Day at the Capital; the cost is $3.00 plus lunch.
