Objective: Department of Natural Resources risk assessment of current open spaces to mining interests

 

Situation: The mineral rights of Larimer County Open Spaces are probably not protected against future mining. 

 

Proposal: DNR staff perform a risk assessment of our county's open space inventory and determine whether we need to address the procurement of mineral rights of existing properties, or for future acquisitions.

 

Advantages: Protection of county open space.

 

Disadvantages: Use of DNR staff time.

 

Requested action: BOCC direct the County Manager to have DNR staff to perform risk assessment and report back to BOCC.

 

Potentially Affected Interest: Open Space program advocates.

 

Level of Public Interest and Participations: Low to moderate.
