Name of requestor: Larry Timm. X7698

Department: Planning & Building Services

Preferred appearance date: 5/20/2008    Time required: 5 min.

Date decision needed: 5/20/2008

Objective: Funding for a portion of the Code Compliance function.

Situation: A portion of the Code Compliance function is funded by the Building Special Revenue Fund (the remainder is from the General Fund/Planning Dept).  Due to reduced revenues in the Building Special Revenue Fund, the Code Compliance function will be removed from that fund beginning June 1. The request is for the General Fund to fund that portion of the Code Compliance function that the Special Revenue Fund would have payed for during the remainder of 2008.  The County Commissioner's determination regarding the level of service for the Code Compliance function beyond 2008 would be made as a part of the 2009 Budget.

Proposal: That the General Fund pay for that portion of the Code Compliance function that the Special Revenue Fund would have payed for during the remainder of 2008 ($56,904)

Advantages: This enables the Code Compliance function to stay at its current level of service for the remainder of 2008, and places the "level of service" decision regarding the code compliance function in the 2009 Budget process when/where all county services will be so judged.

Disadvantages: This will cost the General Fund $56,904 in 2008.

Requested action: I move that the cost for Code Compliance be transferred from the Building Special Revenue Fund to the Planning Department Budget, and that the Planning Department Budget be supplemented in the amount of $56,904 from the General Fund fund balance.

Potentially Affected Interest: County code compliance, building and planning staff, the general public.
